Brewer's notes:
Many beer collaborations are just one brewer going to another brewer's place and drinking while the host brews a beer. Don't get me wrong, that's a lot of fun. I've done that. I actually did it last year with my buddies at Midwest Ale Works in East Moline Illinois. They got their start shortly before us, sourced their equipment from the same place, and they share a lot of our ethos. So yeah, I took them up on the offer for that first collaboration. We hashed out the recipe around a new hop blend with a punny bee name (that we didn't even end up using) and leaned into the bee theme with the use of honey malt and local honey. It was quite tasty, so we decided to do it again.
This time we took turns at who hung out and drank and helped clean out the mash tun and who brewed. So this beer was brewed twice, by both breweries, each with their own spin. Ours is a little lower in alcohol, but also a bit sweeter as the honey was added later in the process. MAW added the honey earlier and used a different varietal. Both a riffs on a classic old school American Pale Ale. So try them both out, and bee sure to mind your buzzness.
Cheers
